Timeline of Beaumaris castle
*1283 Edward I of England visits Anglesey in Wales and proposes a new castle. However with few resources, the castle is delayed.
* 1294 The welsh revolt, led under Madog ap Llywelyn and the need for a fortress becomes more apparent.
* 1295 Edwards castle begins, and is given the French name Beaumaris
* 1295 Edward employs service of Master James of St. George, master builder, to build his castle
* 1296 Building slows down and debts continue to grow
* 1298 Beaumaris castle has been built to the point where it can be defended if attacked
* Beaumaris’s construction comes to a complete stop, still unfinished, as King Edward is currently
Fighting wars in Scotland
* July 7th 1307 Edward dies in Scotland, and any hope of finishing Beaumaris is dashed.
* 1403-05 A siege is lead to try and capture the castle by Owain Glyndwr. The attempt is initially unsuccessful, however,
Beaumaris Is captured but after Owains death, Beaumaris is reclaimed.
* 1642-5 The royalists capture Beaumaris castle in the English civil war. However, they don’t use it
* Today- Beaumaris is owned by the National Trust. It is a Tourist attraction in Anglesey, Wales and still has a lot of original structure, defenses and architecture.
